This article, written by Dr. Stephen F. Grinstead, explains how anxiety in the chronic pain patient, can increase the pain symptoms and why it is necessary to properly diagnosis and treat this accompanying problem for the most effective reduction of these symptoms. He gives an excellent explanation of when anxiety may occur and how it can be characterized or described, in its various forms. He goes into detail on the most common chronic disorders and the accompanying anxiety that may occur and gives recommended treatment interventions from the Anxiety Disorder Association of America (ADAA).

As always, it is strongly recommended that you first consult your doctor, receive a proper diagnosis and discuss treatment options with him before trying anything on your own.
