The ACPA began a project 8 years ago to have September recognized as National Pain Awareness Month. It has received backing from companies, organizations, and some of the state governments. The federal government has also passed a bill that is under review to support this endeavor.
During September, you as a person living with pain, can show others and most importantly yourself, that you are a valuable asset to your community, no matter what your limitations are, by being involved in whatever way you can. It may be only writing a letter to your state governor to ask he or she back the Awareness program or by helping another in your community through support over the phone or in person, if you are able. Anything, no matter how small you may think it is, is a step forward. Remember, a path is paved with small steps!!
Also, talk to your health care providers and thank them for what they have done for you and others. It is a great responsibility they have. Let them know about the ACPA, the work it is doing and invite them to be a part of this growing and much needed awareness.
